Kashmir Observe complete strike


Kashmir observes complete shutdown today, called by Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, against detention of political detainees, ‘arrest and detention of minors and torture of Kashmiri detainees’ in Kot Balwal and Amphala jails in Jammu.
Condemning the continued detention of political prisoners and children, Geelani had appealed to Amnesty International to take serious note of the detainees’ plight and use its good offices to influence the government for their immediate release.
In a statement Geelani alleged that, Mohammad Yousuf Lone, one of a senior worker of his Tahreek-e-Hurriyat had been harassed by Kupwara Police. He also condemned the continued detention of two sons of Abdul Gani Bhat of Sopore.
“Geelani said Hurriyat cannot remain silent over the atrocities being committed on Kashmiri detainees in jails and detention centers which include 50 minors,” a spokesperson of the Hurriyat (G) said.
He claimed that more than a thousand Kashmiris were currently lodged in different jails in and outside the Valley.
The spokesperson alleged that the detainees were being tortured mentally and psychological, and denied basic facilities including medical aid in ‘violation of international laws.
